Penn is known as one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century. You may have seen his famous portraits, still lifes, and fashion photography, but most importantly Irving Penn is known for his innovation. Penn’s ideas were before his time. His curiosity and willingness to try things outside of the norm allowed him to produce pieces we stand in awe of.
This year, Penn would celebrate his 100th birthday. However, his remarkable talent did not cultivate overnight. Irving Penn worked more than 60 years crafting his content. As Creatives, we have the ability to chase our dreams whole-heartedly or allow fear, doubt, and comparison to steal our joy and gift.
As we walked past Irving Penn’s famous portrait of a cracked egg, I asked fellow bloggers how many attempts they thought it required to get that one perfect shot – 10, 100, 1000? Who knows, but what it tells me is this man was dedicated to his passion. Irvin Penn serves as a reminder to step outside of the box, tackle your dreams, cease the naysayers, and silence the negative thoughts in your mind.
