We are already halfway through 2018 and that blows my mind. Do the years seem to be going by faster to anyone else? Sheesh. With the year being half over, that can lead to some introspection on the past 6 months. Have I done anything towards the resolutions or goals I made in January? Have I changed in a positive or negative way? Is there any fruit beginning to show from all my hard work?
It can be so easy to make plans, write them down, and come up with an action plan for making those plans a reality. But then life gets in the way. Our normal routine/habits kick in and we can’t change our ways. Or maybe you’re like me and work freelance hours, so you never have a consistent schedule or know what’s going on. But ladies, I challenge you to not let these become excuses. Let’s break the mold.
I promise I’m preaching to myself here as much as I am to you. How do we break the mold though? We have to go into this mindset thinking practically. I rarely work out, so to think I will automatically start working out 4-5 days a week is a little much. But I can tell myself I will go to one workout class every week. I can create that habit, and then add an extra day on until I reach 4-5 days a week. The same can go for eating healthier. At first it can be only have 1 soda a week or only going out to eat on the weekends. Whatever it is for you, chew off baby bites instead of setting the bar incredibly high, and thus setting yourself up for failure.
Let’s spend the next six months asking ourselves: “Am I better than I was yesterday? Am I making daily improvements?” The answer will not always be yes. But we need to be aware of this, and then we can correct the situation and move forward. Also, tell your girlfriends! That’s what we are here for! Let’s be in this together. Let’s share our goals and our practical steps to reaching those goals. We want ladies around us who will support us, call us out when we need it, and extend grace when we are struggling.
I may not lose 20 pounds, eat a completely Whole 30 approved diet, or spend less than 5 hours a week watching Netflix. And that is okay. As long as I am feeling my best and taking steps every single day to becoming a better me, that is what matters. You are the most important person in your life, so remember to take care of yourself. You cannot help others or become the best version of yourself when you are not taking the time to rest, relax, recharge, and take care of your overall health.
Kelsey is one of those people who will tell you that Texas is the best state and Nashville is the best city. She loves traveling, exploring, local coffee shops, and reading. Thankfully she has a job that allows her to do all of these things. She is fluent in sarcasm, wants to be Jess from New Girl, and above all wants to build other women up instead of tearing them down. All of her social media handles are @riotkelsey and she blogs over at riotkelsey.wordpress.com
