Learning To Push Through Negativity + Fear

Learning to push through negativity

The negative opinions of others don’t have to affect us – but they do.

At times, the drama and chaos that surrounds some people can seep into our every day thoughts and conversations until you feel so overwhelmed you want to break out into a ballad of “Bad Blood” by the ever-famous T-Swift.

She can tell us to Shake It Off as much as she wants, but sometimes the words of others stick with us. And you can’t shake them off.

Their toxic words are like post-it notes with super glue adhesive, unable to detach themselves, only fueling our self-doubt and fears of failure. As much as we try to tune out the naysayers in our lives, sometimes their voices are the only thing we hear.

It’s easy to listen to people who tell you:

You’ll never make it

You can’t do that, you don’t have enough experience

You don’t have the funding

You’re not smart enough

You’re not pretty enough

Why would you want to do that? It’s too much work

Etc. Etc. Etc.

Think of all “The Greats”: Oprah, Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison, the list goes on and on. All of these people were told they were never going to accomplish their dreams, that they simply weren’t good enough. Look at them now.

Anyone who has achieved true greatness had to overcome huge obstacles to get there. What obstacles are holding you back? What risks are you not taking due to fear of failure and rejection?

There have been people in my life who have questioned my dreams, goals, and actions.

I could’ve listened.

But I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had.

Instead, I focus on the opinions of people that do matter to me. I surround myself with positive people who are chasing after the desires of their heart with tenacity and gumption. Give yourself the gift of community. A community of likeminded people who understand the fears, doubts, and insecurities that are attached to “dream chasing”. Embrace these people. Learn from them. Grow with them.

When someone doubts you, it’s a reflection of their limitations, not yours. Don’t let the negativity and doubts of others get in the way of what you want.

Everyone isn’t going to see your vision and it’s not your job to open their eyes. The only person you have to prove yourself to is yourself.

The more you surround yourself with a tribe of people who understand your heart and vision, the easier it is to tackle those God size dreams.
