Soul on Fire

Do you have an idea that keeps you up at night? A passion that you can’t explain, but that just won’t go away? Are you putting everything you have into making one goal happen? Is your soul on fire?

Maybe your soul is on fire for Jesus and making his name known. Maybe your soul is on fire for refugees. Maybe your soul is on fire for writing a book, making your hobby a full time job, or learning how to cook. Your soul can be on fire for any number of things, big and small. Don’t be afraid to think too big, but also don’t think that your passions are too small. What sets your soul on fire may not set mine on fire, and that’s how it should be! We are all unique, so it is only natural that our passions are different and unique as well.

My heart is on fire in two big ways: traveling and building authentic community. Right now, my job of touring in the music industry as a merchandise manager allows me to do both of these things. Or at least the traveling, and then I try to build authentic community with those I am out on the road with. But maybe this will change one day. Maybe whenever I get married my husband and I will travel the world together. Maybe I will become a personal assistant and get to travel and build community with my boss and team. I’m not sure exactly what the future holds, and while that is oh so scary, it is also beautiful.

But what if you aren’t sure what sets your soul on fire? What do you do if you are in a funk and don’t know what direction to turn? I’m here to tell you not to give up. Continue chasing your dreams. Unfortunately, most things don’t happen overnight. People want to see that you are dedicated and a hard worker. You can’t show them that by quitting and giving up! Find out what motivates you. Share your dreams with those close to you so they can hold you accountable. If need be, take a break. Take a step back and focus on yourself. Once you have bettered yourself, step back in. Chances are you’ll see something you didn’t see before, or see things with fresh eyes.

Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. You are the only you out there. Only you can do what you can do.

Kelsey is one of those people who will tell you that Texas is the best state and Nashville is the best city. She loves traveling, exploring, local coffee shops, and reading. Thankfully she has a job that allows her to do all of these things. She is fluent in sarcasm, wants to be Jess from New Girl, and above all wants to build other women up instead of tearing them down.  All of her social media handles are @riotkelsey and she blogs over at riotkelsey.wordpress.com
